MVRDV’s Jacob van Rijs and Belgian office Ouest explore bold approaches to reusing and rethinking existing buildings
On Wednesday March 11, join MVRDV founding partner, Jacob van Rijs and the founders of Belgian architecture office, Ouest - Stéphane Damsin and Jan Haerens, for a conversation on how reuse and transformation can give new life to existing buildings.
The ‘VR’ in MVRDV, Jacob van Rijs is renowned for his bold concepts, combining daring ideas with a humane and user-friendly approach. His work and teaching increasingly focus on transformation, with a particular interest in reusing and rethinking so-called “anti-monuments” — unwanted and unloved buildings — to create new perspectives and functionality while minimising climate impact.
Ouest is an architectural practice based in Brussels fascinated by the city and what’s already there. They work with the existing context in an enthusiastic, respectful and uninhibited way, creating projects that seek to strengthen the urban dynamic and modestly try to answer the big question: how to live together?
Together, Jacob, Stéphane and Jan will present projects from their respective practices, offering examples of transformation, reuse, and preservation in the existing built environment.
