TALKS & BITES
Tijdens de Rotterdam Art Week bruist het Keilepand van de activiteiten. Een van die activiteiten is Talks & Bites; een heerlijk verzorgde (vegan) lunch in het Keilepand gecombineerd met een talk van een inspirerende kunstenares uit het M4H gebied. Als klap op de vuurpijl sluiten we alle Talks & Bites af met een studio of expositie bezoek.

Donderdag 19 mei / Iris Veentjer & Ilse Evers (Eversom) / €35,- inclusief lunch & studio bezoek
We trappen Talks & Bites af met 2 makers uit het KeileKwartier! Zowel de studio van Iris Veentjer (Studio I Focus, Bakkie Trots, Rietgoed) als van Ilse Evers (Eversom Design) zijn gevestigd op de Keilewerf 2. Duurzaamheid is iets wat voor beide dames een belangrijke rol speelt in hun creaties. Zo maakt Ilse Evers onder andere tassen, riemen en armbanden van gerecyclede brandweerslangen. Iris Veentjer maakt onder meer keramieken kopjes van materiaal uit de grond, daarnaast ligt de focus in haar werk op het ontwerpen voor een actieve deelname van iedereen aan het maatschappelijk leven. Tijdens de lunch zullen beiden dames hun verhaal vertellen, daarna zullen we de studio’s van Iris Veentjer en Ilse Evers gezamenlijk bezoeken.
Vrijdag 20 mei / Wieki Somers / €35,- inclusief lunch & studio bezoek
Voor de tweede dag van Talks & Bites hebben we Wieki Somers uitgenodigd. Samen met Dylan van den Berg opereert ze onder de naam Studio Wieki Somers. In haar werk maakt ze gebruik van alledaagse voorwerpen en blaast die nieuw leven in door de combinatie te maken met een vreemde vorm, technologie, materiaal of functie. De studio kent internationaal aanzien en heeft onder andere samengewerkt met Alexander McQueen, Valerie Objects en Hermès. De werken van Studio Wieki Somers zijn onder andere te vinden in het Museum of Modern Art in New York en het Centre Pompidou in Parijs. Veel Rotterdammers zullen haar werk kennen vanuit het museum Boijmans van Beuningen, waar zij de garderobe ‘Merry-Go-Round Coat Rack’ voor ontwierp. Na de lunch zullen we gezamenlijk naar de studio van Wieki Somers wandelen, waar zij ons meer zal vertellen over haar werk.
Zaterdag 21 mei / Alexandra Phillips / €35,- inclusief lunch & expositie bezoek
Opkomend Amerikaans talent Alexandra Phillips exposeert momenteel bij Brutus, maar speciaal voor Talks & Bites zal de kunstenares haar verhaal komen doen in het Keilepand. De Amerikaanse, die momenteel in Rotterdam werkt, vertaalt haar visie in haar sculpturen, reliëfs en video's door alledaagse voorwerpen op een ongebruikelijke manier te presenteren. In plaats van het transformeeren van materialen, maakt zij optimaal gebruik van hun intrinsieke eigenschappen, waardoor Phillips hun onvoorziene mogelijkheden en aantrekkingskracht laat zien. Verwacht bijzondere combinaties zoals gips met piepschuim of karton en verpakkingsmateriaal. Hier zal zij tijdens de lunch meer over vertellen. Na afloop zullen we gezamenlijk haar expositie bij Brutus bezoeken. Houdt er rekening mee dat deze talk in het Engels wordt gegeven.
Zondag 22 mei / Maudy Alferink / €35,- inclusief lunch & expositie bezoek
Op zondag blijven we in het vertrouwde Keilepand en zullen we meer te weten komen over het werk van de getalenteerde Maudy Alferink. Na een ernstig auto ongeluk in 2014 begon zij met schilderen in het revalidatiecentrum. Een levenslange passie voor de identiteit van de vrouw en haar veranderlijke uiterlijk stuurden haar naar een vast onderwerp in haar werk. Ze is constant op zoek naar wat vrouwelijk is of kan zijn. Deze zoektocht legt ze vast in haar hyperrealistische hedendaagse olieverfschilderijen. Afgelopen april exposeerde zij al in het Keilepand tijdens de Rolling Art Show, tijdens de Rotterdam Art Week exposeert zij een van haar werken op de bovenverdieping van het pand. Hier is ook de expositie KEILECONTEMPORARY, welke we na de lunch zullen bezoeken met toelichting van curator Harald van der Sluys Veer.

TALKS & BITES
During the Rotterdam Art Week, the Keilepand is bustling with activities. One of those activities is Talks & Bites; a delicious (vegetarian) lunch in the Keilepand combined with a talk by an inspiring artist from the M4H area. To top it all off, we close all Talks & Bites with a studio or exhibition visit.

We kick off Talks & Bites with 2 makers from the KeileKwartier! Both the studios of Iris Veentjer (Studio i Focus, Bakkie Trots, Rietgoed) and Ilse Evers (Eversom Design) are located at Keilewerf 2. Sustainability is something that plays an important role for both ladies in their creations. Ilse Evers makes for example bags, belts and bracelets from recycled fire hoses. Iris Veentjer makes, among other things, ceramic cups from material from the ground, in addition, the focus in her work is on designing for the active participation of everyone in social life. During the lunch, both ladies will tell their story, after which we will visit the studios of Iris Veentjer and Ilse Evers together.
Friday 20 May / Wieki Somers / €35,- including lunch & studio visit
We invited Wieki Somers for the second day of Talks & Bites. Together with Dylan van den Berg she operates under the name Studio Wieki Somers. In her work she uses everyday objects and breathes new life into them by combining them with a strange form, technology, material or function. The studio is internationally renowned and has collaborated, among others, with Alexander McQueen, Valerie Objects and Hermès. The works of Studio Wieki Somers can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Center Pompidou in Paris. Many Rotterdammers will know her work from the Boijmans van Beuningen museum, for which she designed the 'Merry-Go-Round Coat Rack' wardrobe. After lunch we will walk together to the studio of Wieki Somers, where she will tell us more about her work.

Up-and-coming American talent Alexandra Phillips is currently exhibiting at Brutus, but for this edition for Talks & Bites the artist will tell her story in the Keilepand. The American, currently working in Rotterdam, translates her vision into her sculptures, reliefs and videos by presenting everyday objects in an unusual way. Instead of transforming materials, she makes the most of their intrinsic properties, allowing Phillips to show their unforeseen possibilities and appeal. Expect special combinations such as plaster with styrofoam or cardboard and packaging material. She will tell more about this during lunch. Afterwards we will visit her exhibition at Brutus together. This talk will be given in English.
Sunday 22 May / Maudy Alferink / €35,- including lunch & exhibition visit
On Sunday we will stay in our familiar KeilePand and we will learn more about the work of the talented Maudy Alferink. After a serious car accident in 2014 she started painting in the rehabilitation center. Her lifelong passion for the identity of the woman and her changing appearance led Maudy to make it a regular subject in her work. She is constantly looking for what is or can be feminine. She captures this search in her hyper-realistic contemporary oil paintings. Last April she exhibited in the Keilepand during the Rolling Art Show. During the Rotterdam Art Week she will again exhibit one of her works at KEILECONTEMPORARY, an exhibition in the Keilepand organized by har, which we will visit together after the lunch.
