Hoe kunnen treinstations bijdragen aan een klimaatneutrale toekomst?
Deze editie van Carbon Stories richt zich op de transitie van het Paris Proof-station naar het Paris Proof-stationsgebied.
Recent onderzoek van ProRail, NS, Bureau Spoorbouwmeester en GROUP A laat zien dat treinstations binnen de CO₂-grenzen van Paris Proof kunnen worden ontworpen, mits CO₂-reductie vanaf de allereerste ontwerpfase integraal onderdeel is van het ontwerpproces. Tegelijkertijd laat het onderzoek zien dat de grootste klimaatwinst mogelijk niet in het station zelf zit, maar juist in de ontwikkeling van het omliggende stationsgebied. Dit kan als katalysator dienen voor duurzame mobiliteit, stedelijke verdichting en de 15-minutenstad.
Dit bredere perspectief wordt verder onderzocht binnen het onderzoeksproject CARB HUB (Climate-Adaptive Resilient and Balanced Mobility Hubs) van TU Delft, onder leiding van Manuela Triggianese en Halina Veloso e Zarate.
Samen met onderzoekers en experts onderzoeken we hoe stationsgebieden zich kunnen ontwikkelen tot katalysatoren voor koolstofarme stedelijke ontwikkeling. En wat betekent dit voor de toekomstige ruimtelijke ontwikkeling van Nederland?

How can railway stations contribute to a climate-neutral future?
This edition of Carbon Stories focuses on the transition from the Paris Proof station to the Paris Proof station district.
Recent research by ProRail, NS, Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, and GROUP A shows that railway stations can be designed within Paris Proof CO₂ limits, provided that CO₂ reduction is integrated into the design process from the very beginning. At the same time, the research suggests that the greatest climate gains may not lie within the station itself, but rather in the development of the surrounding station district. This can act as a catalyst for sustainable mobility, urban densification, and the 15-minute city.
This broader perspective is further explored within TU Delft’s CARB HUB (Climate-Adaptive Resilient and Balanced Mobility Hubs) research project, led by Manuela Triggianese and Halina Veloso e Zarate.
Together with researchers and experts, we will explore how station districts can develop into catalysts for low-carbon urban development. And what does this mean for the future spatial development of the Netherlands?
