Soulstate Jazz : Breaking bread - a unique musical and culinary experience

31 januari | 19:00 - 02.00 | Cult=us ground floor Keilepand | doors open 18.30

Join us Saturday January 31st on a very special intimate evening that combines a unique musical and culinary experience – Soulstatejazz: Breaking Bread.

In the spirit of jazz — capturing raw emotion in the moment — Soulstatejazz will record a 3.5 hour fully improvised live performance during a five-course dinner session at Cult=us. Extracts from the recording, reflecting the shows energy and crowd atmosphere, will be used as building material for future records. For this one night only, the M4H district hotspot will transform into an atmospheric jazz club. Joined by a hand-picked selection of (upcoming) stars from the Dutch jazz and improv scene, Soulstatejazz sets out to create an evening of pure sensory magic.

Soulstatejazz is where live jazz musicianship meets deep, flowing electronic music. Led by acclaimed Welsh producer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Ellis, the band blends improvised sax, flute, Rhodes, guitar and brass with warm house grooves, broken beats, dubby basslines and evolving textures — music that breathes, stretches and pulls you in. Joining musical director Tom Ellis (Bass, Percussion, Drummachine, Synths, FX) on stage this evening are: Mark Hand (Fender Rhodes), Michiel Renger (Tenor Sax), Cosimo Gentili (Alto Sax, Flute), Isaac McCluskey (Trombone, Vox), Marzio Scholten (Guitar), Paolo Petrecca (Trumpet), Ishtar Bakhtali (Vox, FX) and Steven Pieters (Drummachine, Synths, Turntable, FX).

Rooted in the dancefloor yet driven by spontaneity, every performance unfolds in real time, moving effortlessly between meditative atmospheres and propulsive rhythms. Their recent releases explore this sound even further: fluid, cinematic journeys made for late-night listening and immersive live experiences.

Dinner runs from 19:00–22:30, followed by a club night featuring DJ sets by Matan Klevan (Ibiza), Tom Ellis (UK), Steven Pieters and more to be announced. Bringing you the best in jazzy and soulful, deep and minimal house music. Expect a warm, organic, groove-led journey where jazz freedom and electronic precision collide — intimate, expansive, and made to be felt live. This event is curated by Steven Pieters (Instrument of Change - record label and studio).
